From the Heart of a UCF College Sweetheart…

Today as I look at my agenda I am absolutely overwhelmed by everything that has to get done. I am guilty of easily being overwhelmed by tasks that I have to complete or just things that take up “too much time” in my day. However today I felt absolutely challenged by the way that I look and perceive my busy schedule. Each task represents something that I have been blessed with that I need to honor. The blessings in my life reflect where I am, as a Christ follower, student, friend, servant, and girl friend.

I am blessed to be able to go to college and get an education. To honor that blessing I need to be diligent in my work and giving it all of my talent, also in attending classes and showing respect to my instructors. As a friend I need to stop in my busy day to listen and to love on them because I have been blessed by God surrounding me with them. I need to remember to serve as Christ did and not to be served. As a girl friend, right now that role entails being a nurse. I could get frustrated and stressed about taking care of him when he is sick. But instead I realize that I am called again to take time to serve and love. In all of these situations we are challenged to take care of everyday blessings that we don’t even recognize as blessings.

When we are faithful with our blessings God continues to bless us with even bigger blessings because of our faith and response.

These “burdens” are also there to grow us many times and prepare us for trials ahead. Just like a work out that most of us dread physically this is a spiritual workout for us. Even though some days challenging yourself to this will be painful, especially at first, in the end you will be better off.

So in your life today what are those blessings that you are seeing as burdens? Maybe it is a job? Or a family member? Take a moment and ask God to help you see your role in your day the way that God sees it. Take all of these opportunities to be a light of Christ and not dwell in stress. As you ask Him to replace the stress with peace and joy and reflect on these verses:
  •
James 1:2 Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.

  • 1 John 5:3-4 For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments. And his commandments are not burdensome. For everyone who has been born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world— our faith.
