’tis the season for sharing, right?
As I started putting together a fun list of some of the local Holiday events in the area I thought… maybe you might be in the same boat as me. We are already one month into December and my kids haven’t seen Santa, made cookies, or watched Elf!
We love making the most of the Christmas season at our house. Adrian and I figure, if we are celebrating God’s Son’s birthday He needs more than just one day of partying! So we go big for Jesus’ birthday- having fun as a family, helping others, and finding ways to be together as a family.
It all began when Adrian was in ministry. It was all too easy for me to feel like a single Mom during the Holiday season with him being at church meetings, rehearsals, and holiday functions throughout most of the month of December. We made it a habit to create our December calendar at the beginning of the month. For the few nights he would be home during the month, it became my job to find something special to do as a family. If there was nothing going on in the community we would celebrate at home- read the Christmas story and make a manger snack, make a gingerbread house, or watch a Christmas movie together.
To this day, my kids remember more with their Daddy at home than him being “too busy” during the Christmas season.
So here is my encouragement to you. Make the most of the moments you have together. When so much is being demanded of you (time and money) find a few days to celebrate. Jesus Christ came so that we might l-i-v-e and not be bogged down by life’s demands.
We get one life to live. Don’t give up. Smile and make the most of each setback and success. #yolo
