In the Beginning: Studying "The Story"

This week our church kicked of a churchwide study of The Story. From Genesis to Revelation, we are studying scripture to understand God’s story and how our stories intersect with it.

Tonight I had the incredible opportunity to read through the first parts of Genesis with some Freshmen girls. Like many discussions that I am a part of, we went through many tangents. 😉 Many good tangents though! One in particular was about the pressure in their classes to “agree” in their public school biology classes. There is so much pressure to be either an evolutionist or creationist

I shared with them, and I wanted to share with you all some incredible resources for people seeking Truth about “in the beginning”. I have been blessed to hear some incredible speakers on this topic and I would love to share.

Genesis 2:4- “the Lord God…”God repeated Himself calling Himself “the LORD God” many times in Genesis! He establishes himself as Lord!Genesis 3:1- “the devil appears and calls Him just God but refused to call him “the Lord God”.Satan doesn’t mind you knowing who God is, he only cares about if you are calling Him “the Lord God”! -taken from NewSpring Church sermon. For some more insights from the sermon visit BiBoBlog for some incredible notes!

Here is also a great link on teaching your kids about the beginning of Genesis. (Thank you ABC Jesus Loves Me) There are so many great resources out there on this subject. Share any resources that have helped you. Watch these videos at home with your spouse and/or older kids. Talk about it!

Fix these words of mine in your hearts and minds; tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Teach them to your children, talking about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates, so that your days and the days of your children may be many in the land that the Lord swore to give your forefathers, as many as the days that the heavens are above the earth. Deuteronomy 11:18-21
