Life Interrupted

Just the thought of the word “renew” gives me goose bumps. It also makes me laugh a little bit.

Some sources define the verb “renew” as to resume after an interruption, to re-establish, to give fresh life to.

The first analogy that comes to mind:  ME trying to “get back” the body I had before having kids. Haha. See why it makes me laugh?!

To “renew” something indicates that is once was. That the object needing renewal has been in a state of interruption and is in dire need of getting back to a state of what once was.

The purpose of the prefix “re” is to indicate something is going back. IE: Something that was established that needs to go back to it’s former state of establishment needs to be “RE”established.

These beautiful scriptures all include this haunting prefix. What if the life we have is simply “interrupted” from what is meant to be? What if God wants to bring back a life to us that we once were able to have?

Think back to Genesis and the Garden of Eden. In the beginning, our life WAS as God intended. Man and Woman walked with God, talked with God, and lived on every beautiful word and blessing He gave. Pain and suffering were absent. Confusion and disorder were not present. What changed? What interrupted?

When sin was chosen, what WAS was interrupted (Genesis 3). Since then, God has been fighting for us to renew the life He intended for us.

Each of these verses from the Bible point to something we once had. God’s word calls us to get back what once was ours- renew, restore, and receive.

Let’s get back the life intended for us. Let’s stop living life interrupted and start re-new!

Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me.
Psalm 51:10

Restore to me the joy of your salvation, and uphold me with a willing spirit.
Psalm 51:12

Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect. Romans 12:2

But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth. Acts 1:8

I long to obey your commandments! Renew my life with your goodness. Psalm 119:40

Instead, let the Spirit renew your thoughts and attitudes. Ephesians 4:23
