Teachable Moment: Smallest House on the Block

This all started when my 5 year old Madi asked “When are we moving to a bigger house?”

HAVE YOUR CHILDREN STARTED ASKING ABOUT HAVING A BIGGER HOUSE? MORE TOYS? THEME PARK PASSES? IS GOING TO THE STORE A NIGHTMARE BECAUSE YOUR KIDS WANT EVERYTHING THEY SEE?

IF YOU ARE CURRENTLY SPENDING SOME OF YOUR FAMILIES FINANCES TO TITHE, SPONSOR A CHILD, HELP OTHERS IN NEED, THIS IS A GREAT OPPORTUNITY TO TALK WITH YOUR CHILDREN ABOUT HOW YOU CHOOSE TO SPEND YOU FINANCES.

EXPLAIN THAT YOUR FAMILY CHOOSES TO USE YOUR MONEY TO HELP OTHERS AND THAT IS WHY YOU MAY HAVE THE SMALLEST HOUSE (APARTMENT/CAR/TOYS) ON THE BLOCK. YOU CAN EXPLAIN THAT THIS IS “WHO WE ARE”.  IN OUR HOUSE MY 5 YEAR OLD WILL SAY “I AM A TRAURIG, WE USE OUR MONEY TO HELP PEOPLE”.

  • WHY?
  • HOW DOES GOD FEEL WHEN WE USE OUR MONEY TO HELP OTHERS AND HIS CHURCH?
  • HOW CAN YOUR KIDS DO THIS TOO?

READ SOME BIBLE VERSE WITH YOUR KIDS AND TALK ABOUT THEM:

The wicked borrows and does not pay back,
But the righteous is gracious and gives. (Psalm 37:21)

Do not neglect to do good and to share what you have, for such sacrifices are pleasing to God. (Hebrews 13:16)
