What I’m Listening To

Once again I find myself really enjoying some of the music that is out there. One reason I enjoy posting these “what I’m listening to” posts is because of a simple encouragement my Mom once passed along to me.

As a Mommy it can be very difficult to find time to do things for myself. My day quickly begins and ends with taking care of the needs of others. This, of course, is no excuse for not taking care of ourselves. If we do not take care of ourselves physically, mentally, spiritually than who will? That is an unfair burden/expectation to pass along to our significant others.

With that being said there are many days I feel like I have failed. I have failed to take care of myself or meet the expectations that I feel are on me- as a Mommy, woman of faith, friend, and wife. (The list for this could go on and on some days.) Some days when my day is filled with feeding children, trafficking young athletes, _____________, cleaning, cooking, __________, …etc and I fail to invest in myself the way I feel I should. (I am sure you can fill in the blanks with tasks you accomplish in a 24 hour period.) On days like those, my Mom once wisely pointed out to me, the act of worship comes in many forms. I can walk with God simply by listening to music that points my day back to Him. I have caught myself singing (and crying!) to the kids worship cds more times than I can count. As a parent, what would you say our Father’s feeling is about those intimate times of worship? We can worship our God in many ways and as a Mommy many days our time of worship, communing with God, and growing in Him may come from jamming to the kids music and/or playing songs like these in our home.

– Hillsong Cornerstone album
– Owl City Mid Summer Station album
– Toby Mac Eye On It album
Denver and the Mile High Orchestra Groovy album
* with the occasional Veggie Tales, Worship Jamz, Worship Anthem Kids, and “TheRizers” on youtube. So many of the songs are written/inspired by scripture. – What better way can you think of to get your kids (and you) to memorize His Word?
